As Westerners we often looked at the world from a very skewed perspective, assuming that technological trends are the same everywhere. Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, Snapchat, Periscope… but that is far from the truth. Due to censorship, the Chinese social media landscape is vastly different that anything you will find in America, Europe and most other parts of the world. None of those apps that I just mentioned are accessible without a VPN and China has its own homegrown versions. What’s more, China has many other wildly popular apps that Westerners have never heard of.
While the world is busy chatting about Periscope and Facebook Live and deciding whether or not they will use these new tools, China has already launched full-force into the era of live streaming. As of June this year, China has over 200 apps offering life streaming capabilities with a combined 325 million users. Popular live stream hosts are earning millions, while brands and media have already integrated live-streaming into their social media strategies.
Whether you are looking to attract a Chinese audience or you are seeking new ideas that can be integrated into your Periscope/Facebook Live campaign, we hope to provide you with all the insights and resources you need. If you have any questions, feel free to leave a comment or contact us here.
